Paul’s Fight
Paul Wild was a hockey fan that saw Amy’s story and decided he also wanted to do his bit for the hospital in Amy’s name. He went out of his comfort zone and participated in a boxing match. He trained for just a few weeks and got in the ring! As bad luck would have it, on the day, Amy was stuck in Weston Park, so Dad and I went along to support Paul. My first time in a boxing ring – thankfully it was just to present Paul with his trophy after he won!
He raised over an amazing £400 and even won an award on the night for the fighter who raised the most for charity!
Amy was honoured. Another example of #hockeyfamilystickstogether
“I will be the first to admit I didn’t know Amy the first I heard of her was through a piece the steelers had posted and if ever a story touched my heart it was the story of this amazing lady. Now a couple of days later I had a total moment of madness and had put myself into a charity boxing match I have never boxed before never been near a ring before I put it down to a midlife crisis. So after I had read Amys story I thought to myself I would love to raise money for Weston Park and Amy so I got in touch with both Beth and Amy 2 people that didn’t know me asking if I could box for her. To my surprise both welcomed me with open arms the first time I met Amy even though she wasn’t very well had a big smile for our photo and was a pleasure to meet my fight took place on Sunday 5th October 2014 my ring name was Paul Usher Wild. Beth and her Dad was in attendance as Amy was in hospital due to ill health but I can tell you it was the longest 6 minutes of my life it felt like I was in that ring for hours but with the thought of the battles Amy had to go through every day I pushed through for her I won my fight 2 rounds to 1 and Beth presented me with my trophy I also won the charity champion award for raising over £400 for Weston Park hospital and got my boxing shirt signed by both Beth and Amy which is still my pride and joy.”
