We found out on February 12th 2015 that Amy’s tumours were too aggressive and no further treatment was available, the doctor’s aim was to keep Amy as comfortable as possible. When this news began to travel around the EIHL hockey community, the reaction was overwhelming. By the following weekends games, fans around the country were showing they were behind Amy by chanting her name in the 21st minute.
When it comes to the hockey family, I have to give a special mention to members of RTB, particularly Danny and Sue, and Richard and Kerry. They played a key role in the Steeler fans support for Amy whilst she was fighting, and they haven’t failed in their promises since she went. Their banners at games, both home and away, leading the Amy chant, but also the lantern release they organised and donated £131 to the Amy Usher Fund at Weston Park. As well as the team of support as I ran 10k shortly after Amy passed.
